Budweiser Goes Craft?

by Brant on September 18, 2008

So Budweiser is doing a little bit of marketing shift and entering the craft beer market. They sent me a press kit For their new American Ale. Below is the press release, and the promotional video they sent. Can the big guys play in the Craft Market? Stay tuned for a tasting soon.

Introduced: 2008

Beer Category/Style: American-style amber ale.  Budweiser American Ale defines a new style
of ale – The American Ale – with a robust taste that’s full-bodied, but not
too heavy or too bitter.  Carefully brewed with the highest quality
American ingredients, this rich, amber-
colored, all-malt ale delivers a satisfying
bold taste with a bright hoppy finish.
It’s an ale that’s distinctly American in
character.

Taste Profile: Initial citrus and slight green hop a
in the nose from the Cascade dry hop
are balanced by caramel and slight
toasted malt flavor and aromas.
Balanced and full-bodied but not
overpowering, with a savory finish.

Ingredients/Brewing: Brewed with caramel malted barley from
America’s Heartland for a beautiful, rich
amber color and sweet malt character
and dry-hopped with Cascade hops
from the Pacific Northwest for a
noticeably citrus aroma, Budweiser
American Ale achieves the perfect
balance of rounded malt and hop flavor.

Product Information: Budweiser American Ale is 5.3 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).  A 3.2
percent alcohol by weight (ABW) version is available in select states as
determined by local laws.

Packaging: Available in draught (1/2 and 1/6 barrels) on Sept. 15, and in six-packs
of 12-ounce bottles and single 22-ounce bottles on Sept. 29.
