Beer labels are part advertising, part art. They can entice you to try a new brew or at least provide a treat for the eyes while your taste buds enjoy the treat on the other side of the label. One thing you aren’t likely to see on American beer labels is a depiction of the St. Nicholas, patron saint of brewers. While American brewers voluntarily avoid using Santa Claus on beer labels to “protect the kids,” the rest of the world doesn’t adhere to such foolishness.

This Japanese site has a nice collection of Santa/Christmas themed beer labels. Here are some of my favorites:

If you want to know more about the ban on Santa beer in the US, check out the Brookston Beer Bulletin. In fact, if you aren’t a regular reader of Jay Brooks, you should be.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I hope you can enjoy this Christmas-themed art. Happy holidays!
