Sam Adams Boston LagerThe takeover of Anheuser Busch by Belgian company InBev moves Boston Beer Co., maker of the Sam Adams craft beers, to the top American brewer slot. That’s right, America’s largest brewer is a craft brewer.

Pabst is trying to claim the title but doesn’t own their own brewery, while they do produce the most beer by volume. All of their brews are contracted out to Miller.

CNN has a great interview with Jim Koch, Boston Beer’s founder. My favorite quote comes when he is asked if he plans to capitalize on AB’s sale in his marketing.

No, I’ve always believed people should drink the beer for its inherent quality. To me, waving the flag doesn’t make the beer taste any better.

Amen, brother.

  1. “Waving the flag” might not make it taste any better, but it does make me feel a little better that the money i’m spending is not going to another country while our economy is getting weaker by the day. Sam Adams wouldn’t have it any other way.

  2. Sam Adams Brown Ale is one of my Favorite brews of all time, but it is very hard to find in my area most of the time.I think they used to make a Nut Brown Ale,but I have not seen any in years. And it was “Very” expensive.$24.00 for a 12 pack!

  3. The SA Brown Ale is included in the their Brewmaster’s Collection 24 pack. It has 2 bottles of six different beers, all of which are great IMO, and I can get it for 12 bucks at the discount grocery store. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the brown ale packaged itself but there isn’t a large selection in my little town.
