My quest has ended! If you don’t already know I favor the lager brews especially during the summer. I have always wanted to find a micro brewed lager that I enjoyed! Well recently I went to the land of Sam Walton and Wal-mart and visited the gorgeous little college town of Fayetteville, Arkansas, home of the UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS! The night life is great on Dickson street even during the summer when most of the students are gone. Pubs, bars, resturants, beautiful girls, great bands… all I needed was a great brew. I wandered into a local restaurant micro brewery called Hog Haus Brewing Company. The decor was very nice, lots of wood and brass. The staff very attentive as well. I sat at the bar fired up the computer (yes they have free WiFi!) and order a beer soaked burger. Yes the burger is cooked in the local brew! The bartender recommended I try the local lager called Helles. This beer he explained is a Munich, light lager. Helles is German for light. The brew master had just recently perfected this brew and I was very excited about the pour on this one.

This is it!My search for a high quality, micro brewed light lager has ended. The Helles has a slightly malty aroma… just a hint. The color is very clear and golden with a nice head. Flavor is delicate and very balanced. Extra smooth with no after taste. It is a light offering only 4% alcohol content, but that’s what I like in a summer lager. This is the best light lager I have ever tasted! The executive chef, Eric Lea came out and explained some of his food pairing recommendations and how he cooks with the beer they produce. By the way the burger was incredible as well!

So there you have it! The best light lager in the world is the Helles Munich light at the Hog Haus in Fayetteville Arkansas. Check them out at Hoghaus.com. Cheers!
